hot new hair trend!

Hair trends are always changing and at the minute, one of the biggest things seems to revolve around colour.

Bright tones can be seen everywhere, whether it's covering the whole head or just colouring the ends.

But whichever you choose, it's a bold look, so if you're a little unsure if you are a little unsure about whether to take the leap and dye your hair, you could try something more temporary like hair chalks.

“In the fast moving hair world hair chalk is becoming big news,” said international hairdresser Jason Hall, who is based in Edinburgh but has worked at London, Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks for the likes of Burberry and Cavalli. “Since being used by the likes of Ashish and Felder Felder on the Spring/ Summer 14 catwalks almost every hair product company are now selling their own version of it.”

Hair chalk is a fun non-permanent way to colour your hair, which normally last from one to six shampoos. Whether it's muted natural shades, playful pastel tones or vibrant primary colours, there's now a hair chalk to suit everyone. Hair chalks are incredibly simple to use as Jason explains.

“You use hair chalk on dry hair. Simply section off the piece of hair, I recommend never more than half an inch,” he said. “Apply the chalk to the desired area and either leave to dry or dry with a hair dryer. If you want the colour stronger just re-apply and follow the same procedure.”

However he warns that there are a few pitfalls to hair chalk. If your hair is bleached or light blond the hair chalk can stain the hair but this just means the colour will last a little longer.

“Hair chalk as suggested in the name can also leave your hair feeling chalky and yes we've all heard the stories of getting caught in the rain and the colour running down your face!” he laughed. “But for me if you use hair chalks sensibly and embrace the freedom and fun they give you then hair chalk is a must have.”
